  • Any medications they may need or prescription diets they are on. Please make sure you have enough for their full stay. All non-prescription food, treats , bedding , litter and toys are included in the cost of boarding. Its nice for them to have something familiar if you would like to bring along something that smells like home such as a t-shirt or blanket. This is not a requirement though

  • All cats are fed a premium veterinary grade dry food- either Royal Canin or Hills Science diet. We have kitten, adult and senior diets. For afternoon tea they can have poached chicken or tuna (or both) Treats include churus, greenies, sensations.For cats with sensitive stomachs we offer Royal canine gastrointestinal dry food. If your cat has a prescription diet or you would like to stick to your own food , you will need to bring that along.

  • No, cats will remain in their enclosures for their stay. The set up of our enclosures means the cats cannot see each other or interact. Having cats roaming around can be upsetting to other cats and we want everyone to stay calm and happy and safe.

  • If your cat is well and any health conditions are stable then yes of course. As our team is made up of veterinary nurses we are more than happy to medicate.

  • If your cats diabetes is stable and they will eat reliably then yes they can stay with us. If you are unsure if they will cope in a cattery then we will recommend a trial stay of a few days where they can be picked up if they are not eating and therefore can’t receive insulin. If you would like us to track their glucose a freestyle libre sensor is recommended. We would like you to call us and have a chat before booking in so we know we can confidently meet all your cats needs

  • It happens, sometimes cats get sick .We’re here to pick it up early and get help quickly. We will ask you to provide an emergency contact person and preferred vet clinic when your cat stays with us. If we are worried we will try to contact you first. If you are unavailable or unreachable we will contact your nominated person. We will transport your cat to your preferred clinic or they can be checked by our vets Melbourne Cat Vets. All veterinary fees must be paid by the owner .

  • All cats must be fully vaccinated to board with us. If they are a kitten they will have to have 2 vaccines by 16 weeks of age to be covered. Adult cats must have had a vaccination within the last 12 month. As this is a legal requirement for everyone’s safety we cannot make exceptions. You can upload your cats vaccine certificate through their pet portal or you can ask us to contact your clinic and have it emailed to us for us to upload.

  • All pick ups and drop offs are during our opening hours only. The staff at Melbourne Cat Vets cannot admit or discharge cats from boarding, even if they are mutual clients. During non peak times we just ask you to give us an approximate time ( morning or afternoon) At peak times we will ask you to book in a time so we can manage everyone efficiently

  • Of course you can. If you would like to sit with your cats while they settle in we can accommodate a 5-10 minute settling time. We understand its stressful handing your loved ones over to be looked after by someone else. What we do know is cats are sensitive to moods so we advise keeping calm and using positive gentle tones so they don’t pick up on any stress and they also feel safe and calm in the space.

  • Yes, if you get back earlier than planned and we are open then you can pick your cat up early. You will still be charged the full amount for the entire booking. We don’t refund any unused nights or apply them as credit to future bookings.

  • We are inside Melbourne Cat Vets hospital at 177 Burnley Street Richmond 3121. We work closely with the team there but we are a separate business.
